Dessers Rangers Spot Under Scrutiny

Ex-Scotland international Alan Hutton expressed skepticism about Cyriel Dessers being the remedy to Rangers’ goal-scoring challenges.

Hutton advised the club to pursue a reliable striker during the upcoming January transfer window.

Hutton’s critique of the Nigeria international stems from his perceived consistent lack of goal production for the club, despite his high-profile summer transfer from Cremonese.

Dessers, who was expected to bolster Rangers’ offensive capabilities, has only managed to score six goals in 22 appearances across all competitions.

The striker was recruited with the aim of aiding Rangers in their pursuit of challenging Celtic for the title, but the Gers trail leaders Celtic by 8 points.

Hutton emphasizes the need for Rangers to fortify their squad, particularly by acquiring a prolific striker.

He believes that such a move is crucial for taking Clement’s side to the next level and improving their competitive standing in the title race.

“And at striker too they need to improve. They need and out-and-out number nine who is going to score you 20 goals a season,” he told Football Insider.

“Cyriel Dessers has had an opportunity but it’s not worked and Danilo is a very good player but needs to play alongside someone.”

Dessers has struggled to find form since leaving Feyenoord, and the 28-year-old scored seven goals for Cremonese in Serie A last season before moving to Rangers.
