Nigerian football clubs Remo Stars, Enyimba, and Bendel Insurance are set to receive $50,000 each from the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The financial support is for their participation in continental competitions this season, despite their elimination from the tournaments.
Enyimba and Remo Stars, represented Nigeria in. the CAF Champions League, while Bendel Insurance played in the CAF Confederations Cup facing tough opposition.
Enyimba bowed out in the first preliminary round with a 4-3 aggregate defeat against Al-Ahly Benghazi, while Remo Stars were eliminated in a penalty shootout, losing 3-2 to Ghanaian champions Medeama.
Bendel Insurance, competing in the CAF Confederation Cup, displayed resilience but fell short in the second preliminary round, succumbing to a 3-2 aggregate loss against former champions RS Berkane.
Despite these exits, CAF’s commitment to supporting African football is evident as they allocate $50,000 each to these clubs, reinforcing the importance of their participation on the continental stage.
Rivers United stands as the sole Nigerian representative to advance to the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup.
