Enyimba came out victorious in the NPFL’s Super Sunday contest with fellow title contenders Akwa United in Aba, on Sunday.
After picking a point from two games, Fatai Osho traveled to a familiar ground with Akwa United to Aba.
The former Enyimba coach knows that failure to pick a point could put their title aspirations in dangers.
On the hand, the League Champions didn’t have a convincing start to their title defence, no thanks to early exit from CAF Champions League and last week defeat at lowly rated Gombe United.
As expected, Enyimba drew the first blood after 12 minutes with goal from Innocent Gabriel.
The Aba Elephants through Chijioke Mbaoma then made it 2-0 three minutes later.
Fatai Osho’s side responded to halve the deficit on the stroke of half time with a fine header Kufre Ebong.
Enyimba were further pegged back when Akwa United completed their comeback with a superb David Philip’s free kick in the 67th minute.
With just few minutes left to play, the hosts snatched all the points at the death when Somiari Alalibo firing home a free kick from the edge of the box.
The defeat however leaves Akwa United with just a point from opening three matches.
