Super Eagles Can Win AFCON – Akwuegbu

Former Super Eagles forward, Benedict Akwuegbu says Nigeria has a team good enough to fight for the top prize at next year’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Akwuegbu, who earned earned 35 caps for Nigeria, featured in the team that finished as runners-up at the 2000 Cup of Nations.

 

 

In a chat with BRL, the 48 year-old rates the current Super Eagles highly, but also predicts a tough campaign.

He reckons there’s still some.amount of work to be done, and has adviced that the Super Eagles get adequate preparation to build team chemistry.

Benedict Akwuegbu also said, Nigeria’s attack line needs to be ruthless and clinical to surmount the difficult defences of African teams.

Nigeria is in pot 2 of the AFCON draw and is likely to face any of Morocco, Senegal, Algeria, Tunisia or Egypt in the group stages.

The draw ceremony will be held on October 12 in Abidjan, one of the host cities for the tournament.
