The Super Falcons of Nigeria have returned home after their participation in the FIFA World Women’s Cup.
The record African Champions on Wednesday evening landed at the Muritala Mohammed international airport Ikeja and were received by Officials of the Nigeria Football Federation.
It was a special moment for the record African Champions, who exited the tournament after painful defeat to England’s Lionesses in the round of 16.
The players took time to take photographs with supporters, before speaking with press on their experience at the tournament.
They discussed a number of different topics, including their immediate feelings after the tournament.
“It was a very good experience for the players and everyone, but it wasn’t the kind of ending that we wanted. It is football, anything can happen. We gave a very good account of ourselves, this team can only get better.” Barcelona forward Asisat Oshoala told Journalists.
Alhaji Ganiyu Majekdunmi who led the delegation of the Nigeria Football Federation, commended the girls for a job well done.
“The team did well, we are here to receive them on behalf of the Nigeria Football Federation.
“We appreciate their efforts and sacrifices. The girls gave everything for the country and our outing was good. We made it out of a very difficult Group and pushed England all the way.
“You would agree with me, they deserve to go through after effort. They were unlucky.
“The plan is to keep the team together and start preparations for the Olympics.”
Nigeria is one of only seven countries to have played in every single edition of the FIFAWomen’s World Cup since it started in 1991.
With the Club football campaign on break due to the World Cup, the players will now join up with their families for holidays.
