Nigeria Women’s National Basketball Team, D’Tigress, created history by clinching a sensational 83-74 victory against Senegal in the highly-anticipated 2023 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket Championship final.

The gripping showdown, held at the BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda, lived up to its hype, showcasing two evenly-matched teams vying for the prestigious title.

In a remarkable display of skill and determination, D’Tigress emerged triumphant, securing their fourth consecutive Women’s Afrobasket title – equalling Senegal’s record.

This momentous victory marks their sixth overall championship in the history of the tournament, having previously lifted the trophy in 2003, 2005, 2017, 2019 and 2021.

Nigeria’s dominance has solidified their position as one of the most decorated teams in African women’s basketball.

Notably, this historic win was under the stewardship of Rena Wakama, the head coach of D’Tigress.

Her leadership marks a significant milestone in African basketball, as she became the first Woman coach to win the FIBA Women’s AfroBasket.
