For the fourth consecutive time, the queens of African basketball, D’Tigers, have qualified to play in the final of the tournament.

D’Tigress marched on in the championship, and now the holders will play Senegal in the final on Sunday after beating hosts Rwanda 48-79.

Despite only putting a team together with just about a week to the competition, and controversies shrouded around the team at the announcement of coach Rena Wakama and her decision to have an open try-out for Athletes, for the AfroBasket journey.

Against the odds of playing in front of the home crowd with an intimidating crowd against them, DTigress took apart their opponent almost seamlessly.

Amy Okonkwo was in her element once again, continuing to impress as she had since the start of the campaign for Nigeria.

Okonkwo scored a total of 23 points,10 rebounds, 2 assists, and made two steals all in 33 minutes of action.

Being the only team in the tournament with a Women’s coach, all eyes will watch what transpires in the final and particularly for D’Tigress.
