Nigeria WNT, The Super Falcons, this afternoon arrived Melbourne ahead of FIFA Women’s World Cup opener against Canada.

The team has been training at the Lions FC, training pitch in Brisbane, since leaving Gold Coast where they camped for two weeks.

Randy Waldrum’s team will now continue preparation for Friday’s clash with Canada in Melbourne.

The game against Canada is billed for Friday at the Rectangular Stadium in Melbourne. The Africans are very confident and ready to go.

Nigeria, nine time African Champions, are currently third on the log and need to beat Canada with 2+ goal(s) and move to top of Group B.

Australia top the Group with three points following their 1-0 win over Republic of Ireland.

The Matildas stand-in captain Steph Catley scored the goal from the penalty spot in the second half.

On scoring the winning goal from the penalty spot, Catley said: “Obviously we didn’t have Sammy tonight [Sam Kerr]. I’ve had conversations with Tony about it, about me potentially needing to take one if the opportunity came up, and I felt confident to do it.

“I’ve been practicing a lot recently and was happy to take it. For it to be my first World Cup goal was really special.
