Girondins Bordeaux have no plan of letting Josh Maja leave this summer, according club owner Gerard Lopez.
Maja has been linked with a transfer from the club following his fine form last season.
Scottish giants Rangers FC and Atalanta are said to be interested in the forward.
Maja however is out of contract, but Bordeaux remain in talks over a possible extension.
The Nigerian international is disappointed with the club’s failure to gain promotion from Ligue 2 last season, but the owner is confident they can convince him to stay.
“We had discussions,” Lopez told France Bleu, via Girondins4ever. “We really like Josh, he was also important during the season. He is a player who has opportunities elsewhere.”
“We made a proposal, it’s not finished yet, but here it is, it may be more complicated. Yes, you could say that I am less optimistic than Stian Gregersen.”
The 24-year-old striker signed for Bordeaux from English club Sunderland on a four-and-a-half-year contract in January 2019.
