It’s been a while since the core of the Super Eagles consists of a good number of Players with longevity and experience at international level; it is no longer a common sight with the team.

In the current Super Eagles, only Ahmed Musa and Kenneth Omeruo stand out as the players to have at least ten years of international careers.

Musa made his debut in 2010, while Omeruo’s first appearance was in 2013, in a chat with BRL, former Nigerian Goalkeeper, Emeka Amadi argues that Players’ longevity in the National team is hampered by the frequent chopping and changing of Coaches.

Between 2010 and now, the Super Eagles have seen the appointment of 12 different Coaches; the likes of Austin Eguavoen, Samson Siasia, Shuaibu Amodu and Stephen Keshi, within that period.

That’s 12 managerial changes in the past 13 years, and Amadi believes that is one of the reasons why the team has lost its style, and why it is difficult for Players to have a long National team careers.

“When you change coaches as we do in Nigeria, every coach will come with his philosophy, idea, style of play, and players. The system he wants to play will warrant him to look for players that will fit into his formation, so that means he will change a lot of players.

“So if you have a coach for a long time, he will get the players. In everything there is the beginning, the stabilization and the continuity.

“At the time there is stability then you can now change one or two positions, continuity is key for players’ longevity in the National team.”
