The Atatürk Olympic Stadium where UCL History will be Made

The UEFA Champions League Final between Manchester City and Inter Milan will be hosted at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium, Turkey’s largest-capacity stadium with a current capacity of 74,753.

The last time the Atatürk Olympic Stadium hosted a Champions League final was between AC Milan and Liverpool in 2005, where the Italian side was no doubt a powerhouse in football and were head-on favorites to win the title.

But that dramatic encounter still fondly recollected by many as the “Miracle of Istanbul” saw Liverpool mount a massive comeback to go on to win their fifth UCL title.

This time around, another Milan team will play in the final, but not as the favorites, despite winning the Competition 3 times.

Inter Milan will face English champions, Manchester City and the Premier League side are head-on favorites to win, and a triumph for Inter would as well be seen as another miracle.

Manchester City are one win away from claiming an historic treble and also winning the Champions League trophy for the first time in their history, the task will not be easy, the opposition is vastly experienced.

Inter are currently in form, winning 12 of their last 13 games and are well equipped to cause an upset should there be another Miracle of Istanbul.

The stadium is named after Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder and first President of the Republic of Turkey.

An Olympic size stadium, that was granted the “5-star sports complex” title by the UEFA in 2004, allowing it to host the finals of UEFA events.

The largest attendance ever recorded at the stadium was 79,414 on 31 July 2002, during a game between Galatasaray SK and Olympiacos CFP.
