Nigeria secured a 2-1 victory over Haiti in a pre-World Cup friendly match held at the Antalya Turkey, on Friday.
Despite dominating the encounter, the Super Falcons struggled to convert their chances into goals.
Haiti had a couple of free-kick opportunities, but the first-half chances all went Nigeria’s way.
Asisat Oshoala’s tap-in goal was ruled out for offside, and Ajibade’s brilliant aim at goal hit the woodwork just before the 30-minute mark.
The Goal finally came late in the first half, as Esther Okoronkwo scored from a superbly taken free-kick to break the deadlock and put Nigeria in the lead.
Oshoala missed a few more chances as she was unable to add to Nigeria’s tally before halftime.
In the second half, Haiti came out with a more aggressive approach, but their only shot on target during the early exchanges was easily saved by Nigerian goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie.
The Former African champions doubled their lead with their first attack in the second half, as Jennifer Echegini’s header off a corner kick hit the crossbar, and Oshoala was on hand to tap in the rebound.
The Barcelona striker came close to scoring her second goal of the match, but the Haitian goalkeeper made a brilliant save from close range.
Coach Waldrum introduced Desire Oparanozie, and subsequently Onome Ebi but a defensive lapse saw Haiti get a goal.
The match was closely contested, with Haiti pressing for an equalizer late in the game, but, Chiamaka Nnadozie, made a double save to deny them.
Nigeria also had chances to extend their lead, but the Haiti goalkeeper saved one of Oshoala’s shots, and Nnadozie made a great save to push a long-range shot onto the crossbar.
The final score was 2-1 in favor of Nigeria, who had previously defeated Costa Rica in February.
The Super Falcons’ next match will be against New Zealand, who will co-host the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
