Former National team coach, Tony Nelson has revealed that D tiger’s should stick with international players ahead of the final rounds of the FIBA World Cup qualifiers later this month due to their experience in big tournaments.
In a chat with Brila.net Nelson revealed that trying to tinker the roaster based on bringing in local based players will disrupt the harmony.
“We are already in a tight corner right now if we want to work with the home base, we should start early with the home base, it shouldn’t be hastily done.
“Home base Players cannot be the solution, they’re in a tight position and we need experience.
“Angola and Ivory coast will not be coming with more of their home based team, for me our foreign players have been doing a good job for the National team, they have been to the Olympics, World Cup and other Afro championships and the foreign base will be the best option for this qualifiers round now.”
“If you want to use home based players then you have to start early, integrating the home base have to be a process; it’s not just something we’ll put together in a few days. You can’t get anything from the home base if they have not been in camp for several weeks or several months.”
Nigeria will come up against Ivory Coast, Guinea and Angola later this month and must win all three fixtures if they are to at least get a chance to qualify to the World cup as best losers.
On Tuesday, D’Tigers opened camp for Screening in Abuja with the aim of selecting local based players to make up the Qualifiers roaster.
