Former Belgian star Marc Degryse sees the exit of Paul Onuachu from Genk as a big gamble.
The USA 94 World Cup star insists the decision to cash in on the forward could cost the Limburgers the Belgian Jupiler league title this season.
Genk sold Onuachu to Southampton on transfer deadline day, and the Wouter Vrancken’s drew their first game without the forward who scored 16 goals in 19 starts.
“You should not underestimate that impact. He was the top scorer, guaranteed 20 to 30 goals every year. The competition will not mind Onuachu ‘s departure . Yes, this can cost Genk the title,” says Marc Degryse told Het Laatste Nieuws.
He added that, Genk winning the title now depends on how quickly Onuachu’s replacement, Tolu Arokodare integrated himself into the team.
“But I see Wouter Vrancken capable of finding a solution for this as well. Much will depend on how Arokodare integrates,
“He joins a team that is running well. As a new player it is easier to find your way.” He said.
