KRC Genk slip up without Onuachu

Belgian Jupiler League leaders, KRC Genk returned to action a day after completing the sale of top scorer Paul Onuachu and in some ways the Forward was missed.

Genk faced struggling KAS Eupen in a midweek game at the Kehrwegstadion and only managed to pick up a point.

Eupen were among the bottom three prior kick off, but ground out a result against the best team in the League.

Despite going behind in the 17th minute from a John Paintsil goal, the hosts responded nine minutes later with the leveler.

Stef Peeters converted from the spot to tie the game going into the break.

Although no more goals were recorded, it was the hosts who had looked likelier of the two to break the impasse, Lambert Boris thought he had scored in the 72nd minute but VAR chalked off the goal for offside.

Meanwhile, although Genk also announced Toluwalase Arokodare as the new number 9, the new signing was not in the matchday squad.

Yira Sor was in the squad though, and the 22 year-old was introduced off the bench in the 79th minute for his 5th league appearance.

However, Sor could not add to his goal tally as KRC Genk three-game winning streak was halted, but they maintain a 7points lead in the summit after 23 rounds of matches.
