President of the Nigeria Referees’ Association, Tade Azeez says sending people to Kano is like sending them to their graves, in reaction to the violence that broke out after Pillars lost 1-0 to Akwa United in their matchday 18 league game on Sunday.
Match officials as well at team officials of the visiting team were attacked by fans, who also pelted the Akwa United team bus with missiles casing serious damages.
In a chat with brila.net the Referees’ Boss said Kano was a known hot bed for violence during league matches , particularly when the home team loses. He insists the unsportsmanlike reception by the home fans is a recurring situation at the Sani Abacha Stadium and tougher sanctions must be put in place to deter such acts.
Azeez suggested a 6-point deduction penalty should be enforced becasue fines and stadium bans have done little to stop the rot.
