36-year-old Mikel Gives Condition for Super Eagles Return

Former Super Eagles midfielder, John Mikel Obi has ruled out the possibility of coaching the Nigerian national team in the future.

The 36 year-old, who enjoyed an illustrious career with the Super Eagles, winning the AFCON, has expressed a preference for an administrative role rather than a coaching position.

In an interview with CNN, Mikel revealed that he would like to be involved with the national team at some point, but clarified that coaching was not in his plans.

He humorously stated that he doesn’t want to face the possibility of being sacked as a coach, hinting at the challenges and uncertainties associated with the profession.

“I will be involved with the national team at some point,” Mikel told CNN. “But not as a coach, as I don’t want to get sacked (laughs). I can’t handle that.”

“However, I would like to fix the problems from the top; maybe mediate between the players and the federation and make sure things are run properly.

“To me, success is not about what happened on the pitch but with the right structures from the top as well.”
