Eguaveon, Shorunmu Gets Sunshine Stars’ Mandate

Football fans in the smiling city of Akure, will troop out to the Ondo state football agency office, at football village, Oda Road at about 11am on Tuesday morning, to witness the unveiling of two of the sports icons, Augustine Eguaveon and Ike Shorunmu as coaches of their beloved Sunshine stars.

The mandate to keep Sunshine stars in the NPFL was only recently handed over to honourable Gbenga Elegbeleye, a former vice chairman of Sunshine stars football club, a former deputy chairman of the house committee on sports and a former director general of the National sports commission who alongside his committee members have now settled for Eguaveon as head coach.

Eguaveon who was caretaker coach of the Super Eagles in 2010 and coach of the Under 23 team in 2011, only recently, led the NPFL Under 17 team to a second placed finish at the LA LIGA future champions competition, in Soweto, South Africa.

All these experience will be put to test from the second stanza of the league, when the former Enyimba and COD coach begins a fresh journey into club management.
Joining him, is a former National team mate and friend Ike Shorunmu as both, have accepted to help their friend of many years Elegbeleye succeed on his mandate.

Both coaches will sign a short term contract, with an option of an extension at the end of the 2016/2017 NPFL season based on performance and acceptance by all.
