2026 WCQ: Super Eagles Under Pressure – Ndidi
162
Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has admitted pressure is mounting on the team to win their upcoming matches against South Africa and Benin Republic.
The three-time African champions find themselves in a critical situation, needing wins in these fixtures to revive their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.
The Super Eagles have yet to secure a win in Group C, having drawn their opening two games against Lesotho and Zimbabwe.
“We are not happy with our position on the table,” Ndidi admitted.
“We will fight hard to win our next two games. The team is determined to turn their fortunes around and advance in their quest for World Cup qualification.
“Yeah, they (the games) are really important because we know where we stand at the moment. it’s not a good position, to be honest, we should be honest with ourselves,” Ndidi said on Arise TV.
“As long as you’re in that group you want to qualify so there are no small countries or small teams.”
“Where we are at the moment gives us more pressure, because these games are must-win games.
“I’m not saying we will win the game but I’m saying they are must-win games because we don’t know what’s going to happen but it all bores down to us as a team because we know what is at hand and then we know we have to get as much as we can in these two games just to go up there,” Ndidi said.
The Super Eagles will host South Africa on Friday, June 7, before traveling to Abidjan three days later for a crucial clash with Benin.
