With the World Cup qualifiers resuming in June, Nigerian striker Elijah Ani has announced his decision to make an international switch to Rwanda.
Ani disclosed to New Times Rwanda that he has agreed to join the Rwanda national team following an approach by the Football Association.
The Forward, who previously played for Rangers, Warri Wolves and Lobi Stars in the Nigeria Premier Football League, moved to Rwanda where he now plays for Bugesera FC in the Primus National League.
Expressing his excitement, Ani said, “It will be a big dream come true for me.”
The striker, alongside Victor Mbaoma were the joint top scorers in the recently concluded league season, netting 15 goals each.
His impressive performance has not gone unnoticed, as top Rwandan club Rayon Sports has already reached out to Ani’s agent regarding a potential transfer.
Despite the interest, Ani who still has one year remaining on his contract with Bugesera FC, is keeping a sealed lip on his decision.
The World Cup qualifiers see both Rwanda and Nigeria in Group C; with the former leading the pack and Nigeria winless after two rounds of matches.
Ani’s switch could potentially impact the dynamics of the group as the qualifiers progress.
