As Nigeria prepares to face Benin Republic in a crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Monday, head coach Finidi George has sent a clear message to his counterpart Gernot Rohr, urging him to be fearful of the Super Eagles.
Rohr, who led Nigeria for nearly six years before his dismissal in December 2021, now manages the Squirrels of Benin Republic.
The German’s intimate knowledge of the Super Eagles could be an advantage for Benin.
However, Finidi has emphasized that it is his opposite number who should be concerned about facing his former team.
Speaking to reporters, Finidi confidently stated, “He should be the one to be fearful of the Super Eagles. We want to win the game, and we will take risks to win.”
The Super Eagles head coach added, “We should repeat the second half performance against South Africa in Abidjan. That will give us a positive result that will change the narrative, and that’s what we want to do on Monday.”
Nigeria has so far been able to pick up only three points from three games, drawing against Lesotho and Zimbabwe along with their latest 1-1 draw against South Africa.
They will be looking to turn the corner by beating Benin Republic on Monday, and must win their remaining group games to pick an automatic ticket to the World Cup by current permutations.
