Rwanda’s head coach, Frank Torsten Spittler, has shifted his attention to Tuesday’s clash against Nigeria following his team’s 1-1 draw against Libya on Thursday in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
The Amavubi opened their AFCON qualifying campaign with a hard-fought point in Libya, where fullback Sobi Al Dawi gave the hosts the lead in the first half.
The match, held at the refurbished stadium in Tripoli, is Libya’s first game at the venue since August 2013.
However, Rwanda responded in the 51st minute when Innocent Nshuti scored the equalizer, securing a valuable point for the visitors.
Looking ahead to the upcoming home fixture in Kigali against Nigeria, Spittler conceded to the challenge of facing a top opponent.
“We know our next game against Nigeria won’t be easy, but we hope to make the best of our home advantage. Every point counts now, and this draw with Libya brings us more confidence,” Spittler said.
Meanwhile, Nigeria is set to face Benin Republic at home on Saturday before traveling to Rwanda for Tuesday’s encounter.
