Super Eagles B stand-in coach, Daniel Ogunmodede, is confident the team has cracked Ghana’s historical edge and is ready to secure a spot at the 2024 African Nations Championship, CHAN.

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola has insisted that the club will not resort to short-term solutions in the January transfer window, even as their alarming form continued with a 1-1 draw against Everton at the Etihad Stadium on Boxing Day.
The result extends City’s dismal run to just one win in their last 13 games across all competitions, leaving them provisionally sixth in the Premier League, 11 points behind leaders Liverpool, who have two games in hand.
Despite dominating the match with 24 shots to Everton’s eight, City failed to capitalize on their chances.
Bernardo Silva’s 14th-minute goal, courtesy of a deflected strike after a clever assist from Jérémy Doku, gave City an early lead.
However, the joy was short-lived as Everton equalized in the 36th minute when Iliman Ndiaye punished Manuel Akanji’s defensive lapse with a clinical shot into the top corner.
Erling Haaland, the Premier League’s top scorer in the past two seasons, had a golden opportunity to restore City’s lead in the second half from the penalty spot. But Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford guessed correctly, diving to his left to save Haaland’s effort.

Erling Haaland misses a penalty; Pickford saves
Haaland’s attempt to redeem himself with a header from the rebound was ruled offside, summing up a frustrating afternoon for the Norwegian, who has now scored just four goals in his last 14 league games.
City came agonizingly close to grabbing a winner, with Josko Gvardiol’s header striking the post early on and Rico Lewis blasting over the crossbar in injury time.
However, Everton’s resolute defending and Pickford’s heroics ensured the Toffees left Manchester with a vital point.
Pep Guardiola’s Response
Speaking after the game, Guardiola confirmed the team’s struggles and the growing importance of the January transfer window but made it clear that City would not make hasty decisions.
“The transfer window in the winter is not easy. Even the players know that we have to add some new players. But after, when these players come and play in their positions, they are unhappy.”
“It’s about bringing a player for the next four or five years, and we’ll have to see. Sometimes it is not easy. We have to try because this is sustained for a long time.”
Pep Guardiola admitted that injuries have compounded City’s difficulties but req the need for patience as the team works through their slump.
“Football is about winning, scoring goals, and not conceding, and we’ve always done it until the last month and a half. We’re not able to do it.”
A Season in Crisis?
City’s current run is one of their worst under Guardiola, with only one win in their last nine league games.
With 28 points from 18 matches, the defending champions could drop as low as eighth by the end of the Boxing Day fixtures.
The slump has seen uncharacteristic performances from key players, including Haaland, whose form has dipped significantly.
Everton, meanwhile, celebrated a hard-earned point that keeps them five points above the relegation zone.
The visitors, buoyed by Pickford’s heroics and Ndiaye’s goal, were cheered off the pitch by their fans, who chanted “England’s number one” in honor of their goalkeeper.
What’s Next for Manchester City?
Guardiola’s side faces mounting pressure to turn their season around. While injuries have played a role, the lack of clinical finishing and defensive lapses have raised questions about the team’s depth and adaptability.
The January transfer window presents an opportunity to address these concerns, but Guardiola’s insistence on long-term planning suggests that City’s revival may take time.
For now, the champions will need to rediscover their winning formula quickly if they are to remain in the title race and avoid further slipping down the table.
As Pep Guardiola put it, “Everything takes more time to make it work,” but time is a luxury City may not have in this high-stakes season.
Super Eagles stars Ola Aina and Taiwo Awoniyi played pivotal roles as Nottingham Forest edged Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 at the City Ground on Thursday in the Premier League.
Atalanta coach, Gian Piero Gasperini has heaped praise on Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman, who has been in scintillating form for La Dea since joining the Italian side two years ago.
Lookman’s remarkable rise has not only elevated Atalanta’s performances but also solidified his status as one of Europe’s most exciting talents.
The 27-year-old Nigerian international, who was sold to Atalanta by RB Leipzig for just €9.35 million after being deemed surplus to requirements, has turned his career around spectacularly.
According to Transfermarkt, Lookman’s market value has skyrocketed to €55 million, reflecting his meteoric rise at the Bergamo-based club.

The triumph marked Atalanta’s first-ever major European trophy and cemented Lookman’s place in the club’s history as the first player to score an Hatrick in a Europa League Final.
A Stellar Start to the Season
Lookman has carried his form into the current campaign, registering 12 goals and five assists in just 19 games.
His dazzling performances have not gone unnoticed, as he recently won the CAF Player of the Year award and was ranked 14th in the Ballon d’Or power rankings.
He has also been shortlisted for the prestigious FIFA Player of the Year award—a testament to his growing influence on the global stage.
Gasperini’s Praise
Atalanta head coach Gian Piero Gasperini, who has played a pivotal role in Lookman’s development, spoke highly of the Nigerian star’s evolution.
“He’s [Lookman] a top player. In terms of character, there are perhaps players who have more continuity and are more solid, but that’s normal,” Gasperini said,.
“Even his role is difficult. He always has to be very fit, but he has become a truly extraordinary player, among the best in Europe and the world.”
“This is because he has improved his consistency and in some ways, he has started to be an important Atalanta player.”
Title Ambitions
Atalanta currently sit atop the Serie A table, and Lookman has been instrumental in their title charge.
The club is aiming to secure their first-ever Serie A title, and Lookman’s attacking prowess will undoubtedly be crucial as they navigate the second half of the season.
From being deemed expendable at Leipzig to becoming a star at Atalanta, with a European trophy under his belt, Ademola Lookman’s journey is a testament to perseverance and the right environment for growth.
Super Eagles B stand-in coach, Daniel Ogunmodede, has emphasized the significance of securing qualification for the 2025 African Nations Championship, CHAN, not just for the players and coaches but also for Nigeria’s reputation as Africa’s football powerhouse.
King of the Basket: LeBron James Makes Christmas History as Lakers Edge Warriors
LeBron James added another record to his illustrious career as the Los Angeles Lakers clinched a 115-113 win over the Golden State Warriors on Christmas Day in San Francisco.
The victory made him the NBA’s all-time leader in Christmas Day wins with his 11th triumph in 19 appearances.
The Lakers secured the historic win despite an early setback when star big man Anthony Davis exited the game just eight minutes in after twisting his left ankle.
LeBron James, undeterred by the loss of his teammate, stepped up with a commanding 31-point performance to guide his team to victory.
“It’s always difficult to play without AD, so I guess our job is even more heightened. Everyone has to chip in, especially on the defensive end because AD is our anchor,” James said.
”I thought guys did a great job of just playing off one another, getting to where we wanted offensively, and also buckling down for timely stops against a really good offensive team.”
Austin Reaves Delivers in the Clutch
Despite the absence of Davis, the Lakers controlled the game for most of the night, holding a 109-100 lead with just 90 seconds remaining.
However, the Warriors, led by a sensational Stephen Curry, launched a furious comeback.
Curry, who finished with a game-high 38 points and tied the NBA Christmas Day record with eight three-pointers, scored eight points in the final stretch, including two clutch threes with 12.2 and 7.6 seconds left, to tie the game at 113-113.
But as the clock wound down, it was Austin Reaves who had the final say. Driving to the basket with just one second remaining, Reaves delivered a game-winning layup to secure the Lakers’ victory.
Reaves capped off the festive night with a triple-double, recording 26 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists.
Elsewhere on Christmas Day
While LeBron made history, other NBA stars provided their own festive fireworks:
– Victor Wembanyama’s Monster Debut Falls Short:
On his first Christmas Day appearance, rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama delivered a jaw-dropping 42 points, 18 rebounds, four assists, and four blocks for the San Antonio Spurs.
Despite his heroics, the Spurs fell 117-114 to the New York Knicks. Mikal Bridges led the Knicks with a season-high 41 points, the second-most by a Knicks player on Christmas Day, behind Bernard King’s legendary 60-point effort in 1984.
– Minnesota Beats Dallas Amid Doncic Injury:
Anthony Edwards scored 26 points to lead the Minnesota Timberwolves to a 105-99 victory over the Dallas Mavericks.
The Mavericks were dealt a major blow when Luka Doncic exited the game with a calf strain late in the second quarter, leaving Dallas without their star for the second half.
The King’s Christmas Legacy
LeBron James’ historic 11th Christmas Day win further cements his legacy as one of the NBA’s greatest.
At 39 years old, James continues to defy Father Time with dominant performances, leading the Lakers through adversity and inspiring his teammates to rise to the occasion.
Manchester United manager, Ruben Amorim has called for his team to show more aggression following a 2-0 loss to Wolves at Molineux on Thursday—a result that handed United its third consecutive defeat and continued a rocky start to his tenure.
The Red Devils, who have now won just two of their eight Premier League games under Amorim, were undone by a Matheus Cunha corner and a late Hwang Hee-Chan strike.
To make matters worse, captain Bruno Fernandes was sent off just two minutes into the second half for a reckless challenge, leaving United with an uphill battle.
Speaking after the game, Amorim was disappointed with his side’s performance and admitted that the team is struggling to find consistency under his leadership.
“We lack a little bit of aggression,” Amorim told lamented.
“We don’t train—we just play and try to find a better way to win games, and that’s it.”
”The sending off was really hard for us, but we still need to improve the relationships and the way we approach these moments.”
While Amorim tried to highlight some positives, including United’s ability to control certain phases of the game, the defeat continued to expose the deep issues within the squad.
A Season of Struggles for Manchester United
Amorim, who replaced Erik ten Hag in November, has managed just four wins in all competitions since taking charge.
According to *ESPN Global Research*, this is the first time Manchester United will suffer three consecutive defeats in all competitions since September 2023.
The match itself offered few bright spots for United fans. Wolves took control in the second half following Fernandes’ red card, with Cunha scoring directly from a corner in the 53rd minute—catching United’s defense off guard.

Captain Bruno Fernandez Receives Third Red Card of the Season
Hwang Hee-Chan sealed the victory for the hosts late in the game, capitalizing on United’s desperation to find an equalizer.
What’s Next for Amorim?
The pressure is mounting on Amorim, who is still searching for solutions to United’s lack of cohesion and bite.
His comments about the team’s inability to train effectively—and instead relying on matches to resolve tactical issues—have raised questions about the club’s overall preparation and strategy.
United’s next fixtures will be crucial as they attempt to salvage what is quickly becoming a disappointing season.
With just four wins under Amorim in all competitions and a lack of identity on the pitch, fans and pundits alike are beginning to wonder if the Portuguese manager has what it takes to turn things around at Old Trafford.
For Manchester United, the result leaves them searching for answers—and a spark to reignite their faltering campaign and the long awaited “AMORIM BALL”.
