Super Eagles and Galatasaray striker, Victor Osimhen has brought the spirit of Christmas to his childhood community of Olusosun in Lagos, distributing 2,000 motor-tricycles and food items to youths and mothers.
The act of generosity from the 2023 African Footballer of the Year has warmed hearts and provided much-needed relief during the festive season.
The 25-year-old striker, who has been in sensational form for Galatasaray this season—netting 12 goals and delivering five assists in just 15 appearances—has once again demonstrated his commitment to giving back to his roots.
The distribution, which began in Lagos, will extend to Osimhen’s hometown in Benin as part of a larger initiative to reach more beneficiaries.
The heartwarming gesture follows similar charitable efforts by Victor Osimhen fellow Super Eagles teammates Alex Iwobi and Tolu Arokodare, who have also been spreading Christmas cheer to communities across Europe.
Teammates Join the Festive Spirit
Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi recently launched ‘AleXpress’ in Canning Town, East London—his hometown—where he distributed food items, including turkeys, to 100 families as part of his Project 17 initiative.
Speaking to BBC Sport Africa, Iwobi credited his upbringing for his charitable spirit:
“In the house I was raised in, my dad naturally just gave back. To people in Nigeria, to his family, and even people in the street—he would just buy bottles of water and give them to neighbours.”
Meanwhile, Genk striker Tolu Arokodare partnered with Sint-Vincentius, a local charity in Belgium, to distribute food parcels to families in need. According to Belgian news outlet *tvl.be/nieuws*, Arokodare and three of his Genk teammates helped prepare food parcels as part of the organisation’s monthly efforts to distribute 20 tonnes of food to vulnerable households.
A Legacy of Giving Back
Osimhen’s generosity adds to his growing legacy both on and off the pitch. Despite his meteoric rise to football stardom, the striker remains deeply connected to his Nigerian roots, regularly engaging in philanthropic projects.
His latest Christmas initiative not only showcases his commitment to supporting his community but also serves as an inspiration to others.
As the festive season continues, the charitable acts of Osimhen, Iwobi, and Arokodare highlight the power of giving back.
Their efforts have not only impacted countless families but also reflect the values of unity and compassion that the season represents.
