2024 Paralympic Games: Onyinyechi Mark Wins Nigeria’s First Gold, Sets Multiple World Records

Onyinyechi Mark made history on Friday, securing Nigeria’s first gold medal at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. 

Competing in the women’s up to 61kg para-powerlifting category, Mark delivered a stunning performance, setting multiple world records along the way.

 

 

 

She opened her campaign with a lift of 140kg, followed by an impressive 145kg in her second attempt.

 

 

 

In her third lift, she pushed 147kg, breaking her own world record and clinching the gold medal.

 

 

 

Subsequently, Mark went on to lift 150kg in her final attempt, setting yet another world record.

Jianjin Cui of China took the silver medal with a lift of 140kg, while Mexico’s Amalia Perez Vazquez claimed bronze with a 135kg lift.
