Head Coach of Nigeria’s U20 WNT, the Falconets, Christopher Danjuma said that the team aims not only to win but also to showcase the players’ talents and play beautiful football.
Following their commanding 4-0 win over Venezuela on Saturday night, which secured their place in the Round of 16 at the World Cup, Coach Danjuma expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance.
“It’s a fantastic feeling. We don’t just want to win; we also want to play good football,” Danjuma told FIFA.com.
“We have a lot of talents that we want the world to see and this is an opportunity to see those talents because 90% of them are from the local league, they are not professional coming from anywhere in Europe,” he added.
The win marked the Falconets’ second victory in three Group D matches, bringing their points total to six, the same as Germany.
Despite having an equal number of points, Nigeria was placed second in the group due to inferior head-to-head results and goal difference compared to Germany.
It’s the tenth time that the Falconets have reached the knockout stage in the history of the competition.
Nigeria will next face the top-ranked team from Group E, which will be either Japan or Austria.
