Nigeria’s Super Eagles B team is set to face a challenging campaign at the 2024 African Nations Championship, CHAN, which will be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda in August.
The Nigerian side has been drawn into Group D, labeled the “Group of Death,” alongside defending champions Senegal, Congo, and Sudan. This group is the only one with four teams, while the other three groups feature five teams each.
The CHAN Eagles secured their place in the tournament after a six-year absence, thanks to a commanding 3-1 aggregate victory over Ghana’s Black Galaxies in the qualifiers.
Captain Junior Nduka played a pivotal role in the triumph, leading the team to book their spot in the competition.
A Long-Awaited Return
The upcoming tournament marks Nigeria’s return to CHAN since their last appearance in 2018. Under the leadership of Daniel Ogunmodede and head coach Eric Chelle, the home-based Eagles will aim to make a strong impression on the continental stage.
This edition of CHAN will feature 19 teams, divided into four groups, with two final slots still up for grabs. Here’s how the groups are shaping up:
Group A: Kenya, Morocco, DR Congo, Zambia
Group B: Tanzania, Madagascar, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic
Group C: Uganda, Niger, Guinea, plus two yet-to-be-determined teams
Group D: Senegal, Congo, Sudan, Nigeria
Nigeria’s Group D opponents are no pushovers. Senegal enters the tournament as the reigning champions, while Congo and Sudan bring their own competitive edge.
The Super Eagles B will need to be at their best to progress from this formidable group.
