The ongoing African Athletics Championship saw disappointment for Team Nigeria in both the men’s and women’s 100m finals.
In the men’s final, Kanyinsola Ajayi finished just off the podium, securing fourth place with a time of 10.20 seconds.
Ajayi led the race initially but lost control in the final 50 meters. Liberia’s Joseph Fahnbulleh claimed victory, coming from behind to win in 10.13 seconds.
Cameroon’s Emmanuel Eseme took silver with 10.15 seconds, while South Africa’s Benjamin Richardson earned bronze with a time of 10.17 seconds.
The women’s final saw Gambia’s Gina Bass Bittaye successfully defend her title as African women’s 100m champion, clocking 11.13 seconds.
Liberia’s Maia McCoy finished second, while Maboundou Kone of Côte d’Ivoire placed third. Nigeria’s sole finalist, Olayinka Olajide, finished a disappointing seventh
