Nigeria’s table tennis legend Funke Oshonaike has disclosed that she may take up a coaching role after calling it quit from the game that brought her so much fortune and fame.
Rangers international of Enugu has been boosted by the return of top striker Israel Abia for Wednesday league clash with Nasarawa United.
Akwa united striker Orok Akarandut has revealed that there is big worry in the camp of the Promise Keepers after faltering at home last time out only to rescue a point against Warri wolves with a last gasp strike to pick a point in a game that ended 1-1.
Akarandut speaking in a chat with www.brila.net revealed that a bit of hard luck has been responsible for their plight which has seen them gone on a run of 4 draws in 5 games.
Akarandut however added afterward that it was still good to have earned a point at home on Sunday after been so close to a 1-0 defeat.
“It is really highly worrisome the management, the players, the coaches we do everything in training. The management do everything within their reach and the coaches too.
We play well but let the ball just enter the net and get the three points is the problem but to God be the glory, it is better to share the points than to lose the three points.”
Lobi stars defender Ebube Duru has stated that he is sure the Makurdi based side will reclaim top spot in the NPFL after dropping down to third on the league table.
Duru speaking in a chat with www.brila.net said the league is a marathon and that Lobi stars will still get back their once impressive form.
The home based Super Eagles player revealed that losing some of their quality players to transfers affected the team and has seen the team lately trying to gel into a compact unit.
“It’s a marathon league, we’ve just played week 20 so there are more games to play, yea though the pressure is there, four of our players had offers and to rebuild the team again for the team to get back to how we were before.
So we need to start working hard together with those new players. The result we are getting now is not the result we wanted but we know as time goes on, we are going to come back to that first position.”
First Vice President of the Nigeria Football Federation Barrister Seyi Akinwumi has stated that neither the Football Federation nor the Super Eagles will look down on the team’s next AFCON 2021 qualifying opponents Sierra Leone next month in Asaba.
Akinwumi speaking in a chat with www.brila.net said football has changed a lot in Africa and that a number of Africa teams can’t be underrated like most Nigerians will always want to do. He added that the team will have to work hard to ensure the objective of qualification is achieved.
“Football in Africa has come of age and the teams in Africa are all strong so we need to be very weary of this our penchant for looking down on teams. I don’t think it’s a straightforward ball like people will always think it is. I think we need to work, we need to prepare very hard.”
President of the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation Engr. Tikon Ishaku has tipped Nigerian duo of Quari Aruna and Jide Omotayo for glory and to progress from their respective quarter final pairings against Togo’s Kokou Fanny and Egyptian Omar Assar respectively at the ongoing ITTF Arica cup top 16 in Tunisia.
Ishaku speaking in a chat with www.brila.net expressed strong optimism that he earnestly believes Olajide Omotayo wouldn’t have it impossible to edge Egyptian Omar Assar after having beaten another highly rated Egyptian Ahmed Saleh last year at the All Africa games in Morocco.
“If Jide could take a classy player like Saleh of Egypt out in Rabat, Omar is not a threat to him and so I am confident of him. If I can fear any player in Egypt it’s not Omar, its Saleh but Jide was able to handle him in Rabat so it’s not going to be something new, Table tennis anything can happen. But as for my boys, I am confident on them.”
