Another Kenyan Sharon Cherop emerges first female to finish 2020 Lagos City Marathon
Kenya’s Sharon Cherop emerged as the first female athlete to finish the 42km race at the 2020 Lagos City Marathon.
Nigerian international, Moses Simon is delighted with his consistent performances for his French ligue 1 side Nantes and has expressed his desire to remain with the club.
Moses is currently on loan at Nantes from Levante of Spain where he struggled for game time following his transfer from Belgian side Gent in the summer of last season.
Simon has been a consistent performer for Nantes and has scoredeight goals and provide eight other goals in 25 matches across all competitions for Nantes.
Ahead of Saturday’s Ligue 1 game against Dijon, Simon told journalists during the pre-match conference that he’s enjoying his time with the team and eager to remain at Nantes.
“Yes of course, I want to stay.
“I feel very good at Nantes. However, my future does not depend solely on me!” On his best position, he said: “I prefer to play on the left wing, it is naturally my position.
“However, I place myself according to the choices of the coach and his needs.” On the Dijon clash, Simon said: “It’s a good team, we go there to win. All points are important in this championship.”
Meanwhile Nantes head coach, Christian Gourcuff has praisedSimon for his good showings and labelled him as threat to defenders in the league.
“He is an extremely interesting player. He has an individual capacity to make differences. He is fast, technical, very strong. Obviously, for a defense, he is a poison! He is a very good recruit for Nantes.
Lagos City Marathon: Athletes take off at National Stadium, Surulere
Athletes at the 2020 Lagos Marathon have commenced the race at the Onikan National Stadium, Surulere.
The 42km race commenced from National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, while the 10km race will start from Ikoyi link bridge by 10 am. Both races will finish at Eko Atlantic.
This year, both male and female 42km runners compete for the grand prize of $50,000 while the second and third place winners will get $40,000 and $30,000 respectively.
For the 10km race, the first male and female runners will drive home in brand new Kia Rio cars while the second and third place winners get N1,000,000 and N750,000 respectively.
The Lagos State government had announced road closures of and diversions at some roads for the safety and uninterrupted run of athletes in the Lagos City Marathon scheduled for Saturday, February 8, 2020 from 06.30am through to 01.30pm.
According to an official release from the organisers, the Third Mainland Bridge, Osborne road, Parkview and Lekki/Ikoyi link bridge will be closed.
