Assistant coach of Nigeria’s women basketball national team Peter Ahmedu has stated that Nigeria’s D’Tigress respects her Olympic qualifying tournament’s opening opponent Mozambique despite having enjoyed a number of wins against the Mozambicans as recent as back to back victories at the women Afrobasket last year and the pre OQT hosted by Mozambique.
Ahmedu speaking in a chat with www.brila.net ahead of today’s clash said Mozambique poses a more difficult challenge now more than ever because it will be tough to continue to beat a team that have been beaten back to back before.
“Everybody look at Mozambique as a horse for us to ride on but I tell everybody that when you’re beating a team once, twice, three times it’s just like taking a horse to stream but you can’t force it to drink water.
So what I want Nigerians to know we shouldn’t look down on Mozambique. They have been in camp for over 4 weeks, they have been to Europe. They have acclimatized. They also know the importance of this Olympic qualifiers. So we are not going g to look down on them and I don’t want Nigerians to think that Mozambique is a walk over team.”
Nigeria will take on Mozambique by 5pm today Thursday.
Coach of NPFL side Lobi stars Gbenga Ogunbote has bemoaned his side’s lack of cutting edge following Wednesday’s 1-1 draw at the Aper Aku stadium Makurdi against visiting Enugu Rangers which also scuttled the team’s plan to go two points clear at the top of the NPFL table if result had gone their way.
Ogunbote however speaking in a chat with www.brila.net aftermath of the draw said his side will take positives from the game and move on from the defeat hoping to bounce back stronger in their next game.
“The unfortunate thing is that it’s a game we ought to have wrapped up in the first half. We were a little bit sloppy and wasteful but be that as it may, we will just take positives from it.”

Former Captain of Nigeria’s basketball national team D’Tigers Olumide Oyedeji has thumbed up the appointment of experienced coach Mike Brown for Nigeria’s Men national basketball team owing to the rich pedigree of the coach who has worked as associate head coach and assistant to top teams in the NBA.
Oyedeji speaking in a chat with www.brila.net however, expressed reservation on the timing of the appointment which he feels the overseeing board of the NBBF should have made before now and not just few months to the Olympics which will be the immediate task for the coach.
“That’s a good one, I think he’s going to improve our technicalities and I believe he is going to come with his own technical crew that’s going to help him because basketball right now has gone a lot highly technical.
He’s been a champion, associate head coach at Golden state warriors, he’s been champion with San Antonio Spurs and assistant coach to former head coach with the Cleveland Cavaliers talking about his coaching experience, there is no doubt. Kudos to Alex Nwora but this shouldn’t be coming three, four months to the Olympics.
Horoya’s Nigerian forward Bolaji Sakin has backed his side to eliminate Nigerian league champion Enyimba FC following the draws that pitched the two west African sides against each other.
Sakin speaking in a chat with www.brila.net said for him he knows a couple of players of the Aba based side and will use ghos to great advantage to scale through the quarter final to the semi final stage and keep hoped of winning the CAF Confederation cup alive.
“Football is not mathematics, if you work hard then you achieve well. What I know about Enyimba is just little, I know they change a lot of their players, that I don’t really know. When I was in Nigeria some were not in Enyimba but I know most of them.
”I know what information I will give to my coach so we can work on that. He’s also an expert in champions league stuff so he knows what to do to get some information. What I know and what I believe is that we want the cup and we are going for it.”
