Lacazette pays tribute to Iwobi and Marco Silva reveals why they bought him from Arsenal
Alexandre Lacazette, the star forward at Arsenal recently gave his reaction to £ 32 million switch of Alex Iwobi to Everton.
The Nigerian international player recently completed his move to Merseyside from London, after signing a five-year contract with Everton.
The talented 23-year-old player made quite an impression during his stint with Arsenal, especially on Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The former recently bid farewell to Iwobi on social media. He posted, “Iwooooob’. Good luck in your new club. Wish you all the Best my bro! Was a pleasure to play with youuuu.” If we go by the online portals that regularly provide reliable soccer predictions, Iwobi has everything going for him to prove a huge success at his new club.
Has come a long way with Arsenal
Alex Iwobi debuted for the senior Arsenal side in 2015 after making his way up through the youth ranks at the club. He was signed by Arsenal as a youngster in 2004, and thereafter went on to make 149 appearances for the Gunners, assisting on 27 locations and scoring 15 times. His recent move to Everton concluded busy summer activity at Arsenal who spent a whopping £ 130 million on acquiring players like Kieran Tierney, Nicolas Pepe, David Luiz, Dani Ceballos, William Saliba nd Gabriel Martinelli. In order to materialise all these deals, they had to part with Laurent Koscielny and Alex Iwobi. Keeping in mind the arrival of Pepe at Arsenal, it was a given that Iwobi wouldn’t have had a lot of appearances for Arsenal in the current EPL season.
Marco Silva reveals why they bought Iwobi
In a recent interview, Marco Silva revealed the qualities which made Everton decide to go ahead and buy Iwobi from Arsenal. Talking ahead of Everton’s Saturday game against Crystal Palace, which ended in a goalless draw, Marco revealed that Iwobi can bring about a different dimension to the forward line at Merseyside. He emphasised the position they are looking for him is towards the left side of the pitch, just behind the striker. He would be free to move on to the right as well in the future, but as of now the club plans to keep him focused on the left. The management at Everton considers the Nigerian highly skilled and with great strength.
Iwobi is the 7th player that Everton signed this summer. They are doing everything possible within their means to make a place in the top 6 this season and Silva recognises the role Iwobi would need to play to help them get there.
Talking to the press, he said, “He can put good intensity into the match. He will give different solutions to me.” Considering the fact that they couldn’t work things out to bring Wilfried Zaha on board, the team will need that little extra edge in making things work for them in Premier League 2019-20. And everyone is hoping that Alex Iwobi might just be the right person to give that edge.
