John Obi Mikel has vowed to help his new Club Trabzonspor of Turkey achieve their goals this coming season.
The former Super Eagles and Tianjin Teda captain was unveiled on Sunday at the Mehmet Ali Yilmaz Facilities Football Coordination Center by the club’s Chairman Ahmet Agaoglu.
The former Chelsea man said : ”I would like to thank our President for his nice words. When I came to Trabzonspor, I saw how big a club it was with my own eyes.
”I know that Mr. President has made the club stable since he took office and brought Trabzonspor to the places it deserved again.
”I will do everything I can for this team structure consisting of young and talented players, both in and out of the field, whether it be experience or determination and challenge.”
Mikel who is expected to wear his favourite number 12 jersey at the club, moved to the Turkish side on a free transfer after ending his six months loan with English championship side Middlesbrough.
The Nigerian signed a two-year contract worth three million euros with the Turkish side and he’s set to play a part in TrabzonsporEuropa League third qualifying round match against Sparta Pragueon Thursday.
Club chairman, Agaoglu added that the club is delighted to captured the experience player who will help the young players in the squad .
“Today we are organizing a signing ceremony with Obi Mikel, who is even unnecessary to talk about his career. We’re not just a footballer with Obi ethical ethics and a very large athlete with stance transferred.
“Everyone knows how much we invest in young players. In addition, we have recruited a player who can share their experiences with our young players. Obi’s transfer wasn’t easy. Now Obi needs to increase the number of uniforms. That’s why it takes 200 jerseys.”
Mikel is the third Nigerian in the team , with Anthony Nwakaeme and Eddie Onazi already contracted to the club.

In what was a blockbuster Quarter Final stage of the men’s singles at the ongoing ITF African table tennis champinshiop in Lagos, Egyptian Omar Assar halts home boy Olajide Omotayo’s progress with a 4-2 win.
Omotayo Olajide who sets Day 2 alive with an incredible hard fought 4-3 victory over Tunisia’s HMAM Adam, failed to sustain his momentum in the competition, as Lagosian Pharaoh, Omar Assar proved to be too strong for him in the quarter final.
In the women’s category , Dina Meshref recorded a flawless 4-0 win over Bello Fatimo to reach the semi-final, while Offiong Edem defeted veteran Oshonaike.
Hanffou also lost to Helmy Yousra and Garci Fadwa overpowered another Nigerian Ojomu Ajoke to pick the last semi-final ticket.
