Frenkie de Jong mother believes her son will remain a normal boy
Frenkie de Jong will join Barcelona at the end of the 2018/19 season on a five-year contract for €75m, relishing the opportunity to play with “the greatest player ever” Lionel Messi after sealing his dream move to Barcelona.
However, his mother believes moving to the Blaugrana won’t change the 21-year-old.
The Ajax midfielder before his transfer to the La Liga club was linked with a host of other sides, following a string of impressive performances in Ajax’s midfield. Most recently was helping his team qualify for the Champions League Quarterfinal beating holders Real Madrid.
Having initially emerged as a natural holding midfielder with the Amsterdam club, De Jong has transformed into the total midfield player, capable of dictating games in an all-action manner. Frenkie de Jong’s incredible display against Real Madrid in the Champions League was essentially his first act as a Barcelona player.
Many young players often fall foul of behavioural standards once they reach the perceived summit of football, however, there are few concerns about the Dutch international on this front as his mother proud of her son’s achievement vouches for him.
“Frenkie is calm and thoughtful, I’m proud of him. He doesn’t make decisions without thinking. Frenkie doesn’t make decisions for money” she continued. “He always thinks about the step he will take several times. It’s important that he’s a good footballer, but it’s even more important that he’s a good person, we raised him to be calm and modest.”
Footballers or sportsmen without tatoos are rare and de Jong’s mother believes that her son will not follow the same avenue as many of his sporting contemporaries “Many players have those tattoos, I said to Frenkie that some of those tattoos will look less beautiful when the person is old. He laughed at that and told me he had no intention of getting any.” his mother said.
“Even at Barcelona, he’ll continue to be a normal boy…”
De Jong less bothered about getting body arts is focused on making his dream move a memorable one “I always dreamed of Barca as a kid. I just wanted to play for Barca,” he said. “My dream is to become an important player for Barcelona, I hope I can become a starter, and to win a lot of trophies with Barcelona. Those are my goals at the moment.”

MFM youngster Joshua Akpudje is excited to have made the final cut of Nigeria U-23 Nation team that will do battle with Libya in Africa U23 Cup of Nations qualifier in Tunisia on Wednesday.
Akpudje has been in exciting form for the Olukoya Boys who are topping the Nigeria Professional Football League Group A log and it wasn’t surprising that the National U-23 team handlers led by Coach Imama Amapakabo showed faith in him.
“I am very excited for this call up to the Under 23 national team. I want to say a big thank you to the national team head coach, coach Imama and my coach at MFM FC Fidelis Ilechukwu for believing in me and I believe we will come out in flying colours against Libya”. Akpudje said.
“I will keep on putting in my best to develop and the national team is an avenue for me as a young player to showcase my talent to the world and I believe by the special grace of God with hardwork everything will work out well for the team”.
The first leg of the game will be played at the Bengerdan Stadium in Tunisia because of the political unrest in Libya, While Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba is expected to host the return leg.

D’ Tigers’ coach Alex Nwora says he will only go to the 2019 FIBA Men’s World Cup in China in August with the best players.
Nigeria had been drawn against Russia, Argentina, and South Korea in Group B of the World and the team has to perform to the best of their abilities if they want to make it out of the group.
While speaking on the chances of the team at the World Cup, Nwora said the competition is for the best and established players, not an avenue to try new ones
“You have to take your best players to the World Cup. It is not a competition you attend with just any player.
“However, with interest being shown by many Nigerian players in the NBA, G-League and across Europe, selecting the best will be a priority task for the coaching crew.’’
The coach also said he would try to get some good new players in the NBA to beef up the team.
“We have to go through our list, see each position and see who is going to be best for each position.
“There are so many young players in the U.S. and the NBA that we want to integrate into the system.”
He concluded that every good player would be given a fair opportunity to compete for a place in the team during camping exercise.
“To be in those camps, we will reassess those players who played in the different windows and that will give us a good chance to see other new players we will be taking to the World Cup and will use in the future.”

Super Eagles Technical Adviser Gernot Rohr says it’s difficult for players that plies their trade in Nigeria Professional Football League to be constantly invited into the Super Eagles because of so many factors affecting the league itself.
