‘I can do anything’- 10-year-old Skater preparing for Tokyo 2020
Travelling the world, skating, surfing, encouraging young women to push boundaries while using her extraordinary ability and profile to raise money for good causes, Sky Brown is already an Icon at 10, young, courageous and fearless, she has set her sights on Tokyo 2020 “I would like to go to the Olympics while I’m young… I don’t really wanna be 16 or something going to the Olympics” Sky declared.
Sky Brown, surfs, skateboards and dances, and hopes to become Britain’s youngest ever summer Olympian by appearing at the Tokyo Games next year by then she will be just 12. It runs in the family, Sky and her little brother Ocean (aged seven) are both skaters and surfers.
Born in Miyazaki, Japan, to a British father and Japanese mother, Sky is hoping to be a part of Great Britain’s skateboarding team aiming for the Olympics when it is announced. Born to be wild, the Japanese schoolgirl is already the world’s youngest pro skateboarder,
Though, Sky still has to go through qualifiers, she is unfazed of the task ahead “I just want to get out there, have fun and I don’t really know who I’m competing with or any of that stuff…”
She added “I feel like it doesn’t matter how old you are, I’m tiny and I’m going to be in this huge competition! You can do anything, no matter what age you are.
Sky doesn’t seem bothered by barriers as she is ready to overcome, doing what most young girls wouldn’t do “Sometimes I just want to beat myself and I want to do what boys do. Why do boys get to have all the fun? I think girls can do whatever boys can do.”
In 2016, aged eight, Sky became the youngest person ever to compete at the Vans US Open, and although she did not take home a medal, she still placed higher than women 20 years older than her.
In February, she won gold at Simple Session, a senior women’s competition in Tallin, Estonia, on a park course designed for men twice her size.
she became Nike’s youngest signing, as she appeared in their most recent campaign, featuring icons of women’s sport, including gymnast Simone Biles, and athletes Caster Semenya and Dina Asher-Smith.
Nikita Parris scored her first hat-trick for Manchester City since a 5-0 win at home against Yeovil in May 2018. Nikita Parris hat-trick helped Manchester City edge past Reading and extend their lead at the top of the Women’s Super League.
Parris, an England regular was part of England’s she believes Cup-winning campaign, and she’s the WSL’s all-time leading goalscorer at just 25.
Playing football as a full-time professional was beyond her dreams, She joined a local all-boys team as a 7-year-old, the moment she knew football was something she wanted to pursue. ” that moment I enjoyed it, I stayed concentrated always knowing what I wanted to do.”
Parris said things changed when she moved to Manchester City, she became a full time professional, City had a methodology and philosophy which all teams played and she wanted to fit in right, walking in the direction the team was headed, which is bright for the future of women’s football. “they said the future will start with the team, with me… I just knew this team was for me”
She is a graduate of sports development something she did before joining City as a plan B “obviously a football career is only 15-20 years long, you don’t know what’s going to happen in your career, there could be injuries, illnesses that put you out for a long time.”
She got support from the people around her, but her determination to do well was the key, hence the reason she takes her role seriously as a role model “I feel that I had an obligation to be a role model, to ensure that women’s football lasts long above my playing career, its an amazing feeling to see a young girl come up and say, ‘I want to be you’ but I always say to them, don’t be me, be better than me”.
Despite her youth, the free-scoring forward has already changed lives for the better back in her own community, setting up an Academy, she said “What inspired me to start was seeing the lack of opportunities I had in my local area in Liverpool, I saw way too many young people on the streets doing nothing when they can be doing something so I wanted to set up the academy, particularly football because it’s our national sport and give everyone equal opportunities.”
Her passion for the game is her best trait – evident for all to see from the second she steps onto the pitch – and her dedication is second to none, but for Parris, playing the game at the highest level is not solely about silverware. It’s about providing a pathway for more women and girls to play the beautiful game, without experiencing the hardships she and the others before she once had

Chairman of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) Local Organising Committee (LOC) Hany Abo Rida is optimistic Egypt will not be found wanting in their hosting of the tournament.
Egypt is the first country to organize an expanded 24-team Afcon and won hosting rights five months before the start of the tournament.
With the Egyptian Premier League ending a few weeks before Afcon kicks off on June 21, the biggest worry so far has been the already dire state grass in some stadiums.
But Rida has moved in to quash the pitch worries across the six designated match venues, insisting Egypt will deliver “an exceptionally successful tournament.”
“Of course, time is of the essence especially in technical issues the pitch of a stadium. But Egypt is a great country with huge capabilities to host the tournament in an acceptable and amazing manner,” Rida told reporters in Egypt.
“With support from the Egyptian Government at all levels and the determination of sporting community coupled with a LOC team of experience and youth, I’m very optimistic that Egypt will organize an exceptionally successful tournament.
“The organizing committee works 24/7 to prepare for the tournament and we promise to produce the best ever tournament regarding the organization, hosting and hospitality. We hope this will be accompanied by a good performance from Egypt’s national team and that they will be crowned champions at the end.”
The poor drainage system was witnessed in some stadiums at the last edition in Gabon following heavy rains.
Rida also marked as green other hosting aspects that include training facilities, hotels, and transport infrastructure. Security has also been another worry in Egypt although there was no comment from Rida on the issue.

Evra reveals ‘unbelievable’ WhatsApp chat from Ronaldo before Atletico masterclass
Juventus pulled off a remarkable comeback in the Champions League on Tuesday, winning 3-0 at home against Atletico Madrid to overcome a 0-2 deficit and progress to the quarter-finals.
Juventus star man Cristiano Ronaldo was so confident of winning the game he was texting former team-mate Patrice Evra five days before, which Evra shared on Instagram.
‘Home we smash them,’ wrote Ronaldo to his old pal, and that’s exactly what they did in front of their fans.
‘Bro I’m counting on you for the Champions League return!!!’ Said Evra in a WhatsApp message. ‘I never doubted about you!! And peoples [sic] kill me every time you lose or Juventus.’
Ronaldo replied: ‘I know. We gonna pass bro. Home we smash them.’
‘Exactly!!!!!!!! Viva Ronaldo,’ Evra shot back enthusiastically.
Ronaldo then laughed and sent a thumbs up emoji before sending a quick selfie to prove that he is, in fact, Cristiano Ronaldo.
‘My bro, feel the confidence #prayforathletico,’ concluded Evra, along with a plethora of encouraging emojis.
Atletico would’ve been fairly confident going into the second leg of their round of 16 match against Juventus, but Cristiano Ronaldo almost single-handedly turned the tie on its head.
The Portuguese scored a hat-trick, with a goal in the first half followed up by two in the second, sending Juventus through to the quarter-finals.

Super Eagles’ Technical Adviser Gernot Rohr says he’s in talks with the Nigeria Football Federation over hiring of another players’ physical trainer for the team ahead of Africa Cup of Nations holding in Egypt as from June 21st.
The Super who are set to take on the Pirates of Seychelles in a dead rubber AFCON qualifier game and Egypt in an international friendly later this month are hoping to do well at the AFCON proper haven missed out in the last two editions.
In a bid to achieve success at the tournament, Rohr revealed there’s a need to work on the fitness of the players and he has requested for another physical trainer to work with the team before the final camping later in May.
“The fitness level of the players is very key to achieving great performances in any tournament. So I am taking the fitness of the players very, very important for the 2019 AFCON”.
“I need again a second physical (trainer) Coach. I also need a good staff like I am having now around me in order to prepare this team well for the AFCON. But I urgently need a second physical trainer in order to prepare this team well physically.
“Before the final camping, I will send my physical coaches to the clubs of my players in Europe and abroad to check their fitness level most especially the injured ones that are recuperating.
The Franco-German coach added that he doesn’t want to prosecute the tournament with players who aren’t 100% fit and the service of additional fitness trainer will help in that regard.
“I don’t want to go to Egypt with any player below 100 percent fitness level. Some of the cubs in Europe have one physical trainer, a reason why they can’t concentrate on one injured player only.
If I am able to secure the services of another physical trainer/coach the two of them will be able to go to my players’ clubs to help out”. He concluded.
