Uchendu speaking in a chat with www.brila.net stressed that the Nigeria women national team hopes to go beyond mere participation at the world cup this time but ensure that they do make a difference and live up to billing as Africa champion and as well based on the quality preparation lined up for the team.
“We ain’t just coming to participate, we are coming to make a difference and to prove a point which is that we are the champions of Africa.”
Speaking on her personal target and plan for the world cup Uchendu told www.brila.net that she wants to be actively involved in the world cup for Nigeria.
“Of course I want to be part of the team not just being part of the team, I want to feature in matches and be able to show the world what I got.”
“I also want to use that opportunity to sell myself, make a name for myself, my family and for the country.”
And on how she hopes to break into the team to feature more prominently beyond substitutes appearances, she said it’s a work for her to try to understand her national team play more.
“Here in my club I have teammates who understand me very well so it kinda makes it easy for me, but once I can get little or more understanding from my teammates in the national team, it’s not gonna be that hard.”
The former Rivers Angel midfielder also revealed that she has been working on herself to be psychological, physically and mentally fit for the world cup.
“Well there is no other way of being set for any competition than getting yourself mentally and psychologically prepared and that I have done. All I need to do is to continue training and stay fit.”
And finally, she talked about her recent goal scoring exploit and adding goals to her game as one down to hard work and extra effort.
“Well, I will say it’s hard work because I work extra after the team’s training. I have scored 5 goals now.”
