2019 AFCONQ: South Africa vs Nigeria is a Grudge Match – Adepoju

Ex Nigeria midfielder Mutiu Adepoju has described the November 17 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between the Super Eagles and Bafana Bafana as a “personal battle”.

Nigeria is chasing a ticket for a 17th appearance in the tournament, and whilst the Eagles top Group E with two games to go, South Africa’s Bafana are just a point behind the three-time champions.

South Africa halted Nigeria’s qualification for the AFCON in 2015 and have already drawn first blood from the first-leg with a 2-0 win over the Eagles in Uyo and Adepoju insists that should be enough motivation for Rohr and his players to want a win in Johannesburg.

A win for the Eagles at the FNB Stadium will guarantee the Country returns to the competition after missing two successive editions.

‘ They should simply get a win to end the qualification target even before the final home game against Seychelles,’ the NFF Technical and development committee member told Brila.net.
