Super Eagles skillful attacker, Henry Onyekuru has returned to Everton after his Loan spell at RSC anderlecht of Belgium was cut short.
The Nigeria international, Onyekuru was recalled by Everton from his loan spell at R.S.C. Anderlecht for treatment after suffering an injury to the medial ligament of his knee.
There was talk of the winger being recalled from his loan spell at the Belgian champions in the January transfer window, but certainly this will not happen as he is expected to spend several months on the sidelines.
Anderlecht have insisted that a surgical operation is inevitable but this has been disputed by Onyekuru and his minders.
”Back at @Everton a little earlier than expected, I am so grateful for the facilities and the medical team working hard to get me back playing ASAP! The Lord is my strength 🙏🏾,” the player tweeted.
The 20-year-old had found the net ten times from 28 appearances in all competitions prior to his spell on the sidelines.
Henry has two international caps for Nigeria and was in contention to make their roster for the 2018 World Cup before the injury setback.
CHAN 2018: The Home Based Super Eagles team are now likely to arrive their base in Morocco ahead of the CAF championship on Monday, 8th January.
Earlier Plans to have at least a week’s acclimatisation training in Morocco before their CHAN 2018 opener against Rwanda on January 15 appears to have hit a barrier.
It was gathered from a football official that the Nigeria Football Federation is yet to sort out “a few things” concerning the well being of the CHAN 2018 team in Morocco.
But hopefully the Super Eagles may now leave on Monday right on time for their first game against Rwanda who have been camping in Tunisia since January 1.
They also played a game against Sudan yesterday in Sousse, Tunisia.
“The team is still around (because) the NFF is trying to put a few things in order. It would have been good if we were in Morocco for at least a week to get used to the weather in Tangier… It is well,” said the official yesterday.
However, team captain, Ikechukwu Ezenwa assured that the players will not let the country down even as they expect tough CHAN 2018 competition from their group C opponents.
“First of all, we are going to take each game as it comes, we have had very good preparation so far and the unity in the team is awesome and with that, I am confident of a better outing than the last time in Rwanda.
“Rwanda, Libya and Equatorial Guinea are very good sides when it comes to the CHAN 2018 tournament. Look at the last edition, Rwanda were very tough and they performed better than us.”
Stoke fired manager Mark Hughes on Saturday following an FA Cup loss to fourth-tier Coventry that heaped more embarrassment on a team fighting against relegation from the Premier League.
Hughes was in charge for 4 1/2 years, guiding the club from central England to three straight ninth-place finishes in his first three seasons.
This season, however, Stoke has been undermined by defensive problems — it has conceded 47 goals in 22 games in the league, more than any other team — and has lost eight of its last 11 games.
The 2-1 loss to Coventry in the third round of the FA Cup proved to be a final humiliation for Hughes, who was fired three hours later.
In a brief statement, Stoke said it would look to hire a replacement “as soon as possible.”
Stoke is in 18th place in the 20-team Premier League, the final relegation spot.
Hughes, a former Manchester United striker, had exactly 200 games in charge of Stoke, following spells as coach of Queens Park Rangers, Fulham, Manchester City, Blackburn and Wales’ national team.
After taking over from the pragmatic Tony Pulis, Hughes tried to make Stoke more expansive and bought a number of talented players from across Europe who had lost their way after bright starts to their careers.
The likes of Xherdan Shaqiri, Bojan Krkic, Marko Arnautovic and Ibrahim Afellay impressed in spells but were not consistent. Stoke gradually lost its identity — it started to concede more goals but was never prolific at the other end of the field — and was in disarray in recent weeks.
Stoke lost 7-2 to Manchester City, 5-0 to Chelsea and 5-1 at Tottenham this season.
The most damaging loss may have been the 1-0 defeat at home to Newcastle on Monday, with Hughes having rested key players in the heavy loss at Chelsea two days earlier.
The board wasted no time in firing him after the Coventry loss.
Former Manchester United midfielder Ryan Giggs and Northern Ireland coach Michael O’Neill were among the early favourites with British bookmakers to succeed Hughes.
Stoke has been in the Premier League since 2008.
