Nigeria have named an unchanged 23-man squad for the Super Eagles crucial 2018 World Cup qualifier against Zambia next month.
Ezenwa’s exploits has surely inspired the Super Eagles invitation Of NPFL Champion, Dele Ajiboye for Zambia– Anthony Bekederemo
The Nigeria Football Federation has officially announced the 23 Super Eagles players summoned for next Saturday’s World Cup qualifier against Zambia in Uyo.
And one name in the fairly unchanged squad list is Plateau United’s goaltender, Dele Ajiboye. The premier league champion seems to be enjoying the confidence that his NPFL counterpart, Ikechukwu Ezenwa has brought the Super Eagles technical crew and boss, Gernot Rohr.
FC Ifeanyi Ubah’s number 1, Ezenwa has being in prolific form for the Eagles whenever called upon, and most recently he led the home-based Super Eagles to a second place in the just concluded WAFU Cup of Nations, where he was named ‘Best Goalkeeper’ of the tournament.
All of these recent exploits by the FC Ifeanyiubah’s man has further boosted the confidence boss Gernot Rohr has in the locally based lads and its a further testament to the improvement in the NPFL.
Meanwhile, Chippa United goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi has returned to the roster after recovering from an injury but former Golden Eaglets star Dele Alampasu has been omitted, with Plateau United’s Dele Ajiboye taking the nod.
The usual suspects were called from China and England, with skipper John Obi Mikel, Odion Ighalo, Victor Moses, Alex Iwobi, Ahmed Musa, Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho all earning roster spots.
ADO Den Haag defender Tyronne Ebuehi has been placed on the stand-by list, alongside CSKA Moscow’s Aaron Samuel, and Akwa United pair Afeez Aremu and Ifeanyi Ifeanyi.
Chelsea loanee Ola Aina is in line to make his competitive debut against the Chipolopolo after Fifa approved his request for change of association. All invited players are to report in Uyo on Monday, 2nd October 2017.
Nigeria vs Zambia: Gernot Rohr sticking with his winning squad is the perfect example of ‘if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it’ – Babafemi Raji
A23-man list with 5 on standby for Nigeria’s 2018 World Cup qualifier against Cameroon was released earlier today and the only major talking point in there was Gernot Rohr’s sticking to his winning team.
LeBron James has hit out at Donald Trump’s slew of comments on professional athletes from the NFL and NBA saying “the people run the country, not one individual, and damn sure not him.”
Gernot Rohr calls up Mikel, Moses, Ighalo, 20 others for Super Eagles WC qualifier against Zambia
Super Eagles’ Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr, has called up 23 players for next week’s all-important 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying showdown against the Chipolopolo of Zambia in Uyo.
Akpeyi returns for Super Eagles WCQ Vs Zambia, as Rohr retains trust in Echiejile
Chippa United goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi has been recalled to the Super Eagles for the World Cup qualifier against Zambia next Saturday at the Godswill Akpabio stadium in Uyo.
The former Warri Wolves star has sparkled since returning from an injury that kept him out of the Super Eagles World Cup qualifiers against Cameroon, posting two shutouts against Platinum Stars.
Manager Gernot Rohr has an interesting goalkeeping decision to make ahead of the crucial match against Zambia, whether Akpeyi or Ikechukwu Ezenwa, who was a shadow of himself in the final of the WAFU Cup, will be his first-choice goalkeeper.
The German coach is also to stick by Elderson Echiejile and has always retained his trust in the Monaco loanee for the showdown in Uyo.
Coach Gernot Rohr is expected before the end of the week to submit his list of invited players for the qualifier billed for Uyo, October 7.
“Rohr has reiterated that he only wants to stay with players that are playing regularly for their clubs and not those that are warming the bench.
“We all know that for a crucial match like the one against Zambia on October 7, we need only the best materials in camp. Players that are playing regularly and that are fit.
“He (Rohr) is also thinking of bringing in two or three new players into the team apart from those that executed the previous qualifiers,” said our source from the Glass House in Abuja.
Musa for some time now has not been playing regularly for his club in the English Premiership League (EPL), a situation that is not comfortable with Rohr and the members of the technical committee of the NFF.
Nigeria top Group B table of the World Cup qualifiers with 10 points from four matches and followed by Zambia with seven points from the same number of matches.
With two qualifiers to determine the group’s sole representative, an outright victory for the Super Eagles would seal the World Cup for Nigeria even with the last group match against Algeria in Algiers.
Other probable invitees include Abdullahi Shehu, William Troost-Ekong, Chidozie Awaziem, Leon Balogun, John Ogu, Uche Agbo, Wilfred Ndidi, Oghenekaro Etebo, John Obi Mikel, Eddy Onazi, Moses Simon, Ahmed Musa, Alex Iwobi and Anthony Nwakaeme.
The Super Eagles camp will open in Uyo on Monday, October 2.
