Awolusi Olaiya is unhappy as Sports Ministry delays the release of funds for Nigeria’s representatives at the Africa Boxing Championship (AFBC) in Brazzaville.
Nigerian Boxer Awolusi Olaiya has lamented on the unavailability of funds as day of the AFBC draws near.
Awolusi was among the twelve selected to represent Nigeria in the tournament scheduled to take place from 17-25 June.
He stated that funds are supposed to have been released, since the idea of preparing well for the championship is to qualify for the AIBA World Championships holding in Hamburg in August.
“The Africa Boxing Championship is starting on Saturday and we have nothing to travel with.
“How are we suppose to move forward if a distraction as this is coming at this stage. It’s so painful that the Sports Ministry haven’t released funds for our trip, I don’t understand why.
“Missing out on the championship in Congo has tossed way our hopes of picking a ticket for the boxing championship slated for Hamburg Germany later in the year, Awolusi told Brila FM,”.
The AFBC championship will serve as the qualifiers for the AIBA World Boxing Championship scheduled for August in Germany.
Umar speaks as tension continues to grow over the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) Elections held on Monday in Kano and Tuesday in Abuja.
President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), Tijani Umar has stated that the Federation is facing a herculean task over the past few days as two Presidents have been elected from two different elections.
There was once trouble in the NBBF after some Board members pulled out of an election, because of the exclusion of one of their members whom they believed was supposed to contest the election.
And now, there’s confusion over who is the new president of the NBBF after two elections were held by different parties on different days.
Umar, who has been in charge of the Basketball Federation for the past four years, stated that FIBA, the International Basketball Federation, will determine new leader of the board.
Umar said: “The only thing I will say right now is, Ultimately FIBA will decide the board that takes charge of the running of basketball in Nigeria,”.
However, he dismissed the Musa-Kida led NBBF board, adding that the Nigeria Olympic Committee was fully aware and represented in Kano by their President Engr. Habu Gumel and the Secretary General Tunde Popoola as observers.
The two controversial elections saw Ahmadu-Kida as NBBF President Elect in Tuesday Election, whereas, Monday Election saw Alhaji Tijani Umar return as President.

McGregor could face lawsuit if he kicks Mayweather in biggest hybrid fight of all time

The president of Argentinian lower-league outfit Sport Pacifico has vowed to “expel” defender Federico Allende from the club after he admitted to pricking opponents with a needle in Sunday’s clash against Estudiantes.
Claude Puel has been sacked by Southampton in less than a year. Puel is understood to have fallen out with players, who didn’t like rotation policy.
Southampton chiefs pulled the trigger on Wednesday night after agreeing a pay-off with Puel, who had two years left on the deal he signed last summer.
The Former OGC Nice Manager, who was appointed to replace Ronald Koeman, lead Southampton to EFL Cup final but lost the trophy to Manchester United.
Southampton were Knocked out of the Europa League earlier in the group stage. They were suppose to qualify from that group after beating Inter Milan 2-1 at home in November.
The Saints said in a statement: “Southampton Football Club can today confirm that it has terminated the contract of Claude Puel with immediate effect.
“Everyone at Southampton would like to express our thanks to Claude for his hard work and commitment this year. The highlight of the season was a memorable day at Wembley in the EFL Cup Final, a day our fans will always treasure.
“We wish Claude well for the future. The search for a new management team is underway. We are confident that we will find the right fit in line with the long term vision of the club.”
Puel believed that the work he did developing some of the club’s youngsters, would be enough to keep him in a job.
Southampton finished the season with 46 points their lowest in total for four seasons.
