Stuart Baxter believes history has no part to play in their game against Nigeria
South Africa national team coach Stuart Baxter has downplayed the personal history he had with Nigeria as he remains the only coach to have guided the Bafana Bafana to a win against Nigeria.
While Nigeria have had German coach Gernot Rohr in charge of their team for the better part of a year, South Africa will see this match as the start of a new era under Stuart Baxter if they defeat Nigeria in tomorrow’s 2019 AFCON qualifier.
Baxter is entering his second spell in charge of Bafana Bafana and he’s aware that there is a huge task ahead of him by starting their AFCON qualifier campaign with a win against the Super Eagles.
Former Kaizer Chief boss stated that history won’t play any role in Saturday’s game against Nigeria.
“The current team is different from what we use to have and so history has no part ahead of the clash between my team and the Super Eagles.
“We are going to play our game and fight for a win, Baxter said,”.
Although South Africa has never beaten Nigeria in a competitive game, Baxter still believes his side can come out victorious.
Nigerian Boxer, Awolusi Olaiya Federation has expressed that, he will be selected for a place to represent Nigeria in the 2017 Africa Boxing Championships set to take place in Congo.
Olaiya said even as anxiety rock the camp of the national boxers, whether or not they will make the slot for the competition in Congo, he his optimistic he’ll make the team.
Speaking with Brila FM, Olaiya said: “We have a couple of boxers fighting for spots to represent Nigeria in the Africa Boxing Championship, but the fact still remains that, few will be chosen.
“I quite understand the feeling of apprehension in camp at the moment but I’m absolutely looking beyond being selected.
“I already see myself representing Nigeria very well at the championship and believe I’ll make the team.
The boxers representing Nigeria will know their fate later this evening.

Dean Furman has revealed that the memories from the 2015 AFCON qualifier game against Nigeria three years ago still lives in the heart and minds of his teammates.
The Supersport United midfielder believes they’re are familiar with the Eagles team, and they know how to deal with whatever kind of play their counterparts will bring to the pitch.
A place in the 2019 AFCON tournament is a priority for both Nigeria and South Africa, since neither the Super Eagles nor Bafana Bafana qualified for the last AFCON in Gabon earlier this year.
And Dean Furman, 28, has stated that the Bafana Bafana still have fond memories of how they stopped Nigeria from making the 2015 AFCON.
“We still have fond memories on how we stopped the Super Eagles of Nigeria. We simply hope to draw inspiration from the experience three years ago, in order to edge past Nigeria this weekend.
“I believe our players have the ability to match up with the Super Eagles of Nigeria, so there is no reason to fret over tomorrow’s game, Furman said,”.
The Super Eagles have drawn five games and won seven games in their last 12 meetings with Bafana Bafana. South Africa have never beaten Nigeria in a competitive match.
Super Eagles players have continue to show confident ahead of their 2019 AFCON qualifier game against Bafana Bafana with a couple of hours remaining to the kick off.
Although the players admit that Baxter’s team are fast, they believe that with the right communication in every department while on the pitch, victory is sure.
Rohr’s men is set to play their first 2019 AFCON qualifier match tomorrow with high expectations of gaining maximum three points.

“Loosing out on two AFCON is not a good thing and the players know that, and that’s enough motivation already.

Although Nigeria has failed to beat South Africa since the 2-2 draw three years ago, thereby, missing out on AFCON 2015, a victory will help Gernot Rohr and his team to be on a fine start in their 2019 AFCON qualifier campaign.
