‘He’s Exactly What We Need’ – Valencia’s Sporting Director on Sadiq Umar

Valencia’s Sporting Director, Miguel Ángel Corona, has expressed his excitement over the club’s acquisition of Nigerian striker Sadiq Umar on loan from Real Sociedad.

The 27-year-old forward struggled for game time during the first half of the 2024/25 La Liga season, starting just two matches for Real Sociedad.

Seeking a fresh start, Sadiq opted to join Valencia, who are battling relegation. Currently 19th position on the La Liga table.

Corona is optimistic that Sadiq will provide the attacking boost Valencia desperately needs to avoid the drop.

“We think he’s going to bring us a lot in attack. He’s going to give us a lot of options, being compatible with all the players we have in the squad. Getting used to them and having played, at times, upfront all alone.”

Valencia’s sporting director also praised Sadiq’s commitment and enthusiasm.

“We have a lot of confidence, we know he’s going to help us. We wish him all the luck in the world. He is at full disposal of the coach from now on.

Today, in fact, he has come to do a training session even though he was not scheduled for the group.  It is one more example, as he has been demonstrating to me all these weeks of conversations of the desire he had to join our project and wear the Valencia shirt.

Sadiq’s loan stint with Valencia will run until the end of the 2024/25 season. With the potential to reignite his career and help the club stay in La Liga.

The Nigerian international could make his debut on Tuesday in the Copa del Rey when Valencia face second-division side Eldense.

Valencia fans will hope Sadiq’s hunger and attacking prowess can be the spark their team needs to turn the season around.
