Benin Republic’s Head Coach, Gernot Rohr, has acknowledged that Nigeria’s squad is stronger compared to their last encounter in June.

Speaking ahead of the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier, Rohr admitted that Nigeria’s team poses a greater challenge with key players now back in action.

In their previous match back in June, Benin Republic shocked the Super Eagles with a 2-1 victory in Abidjan.

Victor Osimhen, Moses Simon, and William Troost-Ekong, missed the game due to injuries.

However, the trio has returned to the squad for this weekend’s crucial qualifier.

Rohr highlighted the significant difference these players could make in the upcoming clash, admitting that their presence strengthens Nigeria’s lineup.

“Nigeria has more top players competing in major leagues, while Benin is a smaller country with 12 million inhabitants, so it’s not the same,” Rohr stated during a press conference.

“We are ready for the match, but we know Nigeria has strengthened with players who were unavailable in June. It will be a tough game, but we are prepared.”

The highly anticipated match will take place at the Nest of Champions in Uyo this weekend.
