Trabzonspor’s manager, Abdullah Avci, has confirmed that negotiations with striker Paul Onuachu are progressing well.
The 30-year-old Nigerian forward is eager to make a permanent return to the Turkish club following his loan spell.
Onuachu joined Southampton from Genk for over £15 million last year. He struggled to find form in the Premier League, failing to score in 16 appearances, however, his loan to Trabzonspor saw a remarkable turnaround, where he scored 17 goals and provided four assists in 25 appearances.
Trabzonspor has reportedly offered €6 million plus a sell-on clause to secure Onuachu on a permanent basis. Southampton is open to the transfer but is holding out for the right price.
In a recent interview, Avci stated, “We spoke to Paul Onuachu three or four days ago; he also wants to be with us. As of now, I cannot say it (a deal) is done or not; the president is working hard on this issue. We will be a little patient.”
